Dragging and Dropping Report Objects

The drag-and-drop feature allows the report designer to move report objects from the report Design Panel to the report Design Canvas. As an object is dragged over a design layout component that can accept the object, the component becomes highlighted to indicate that the object can be placed within the component area.

The following objects can be dragged and dropped into the report design canvas:

• Tools and controls from the Layout tab
• Data fields from the Data Model tab

Follow the steps below to drag-and-drop an object into the report design canvas:

1. Access the SmartInsight Designer.
2. Open an existing report or create a new report.
3. In the report Design Panel > Design tab, press and hold down the left mouse button on the object to be moved to the design canvas.
4. Drag the object to the desired location on the report design canvas.
5. Once the area is highlighted, release the mouse button to drop the object onto the canvas.

NOTE: If a component cannot be moved, a thick blue line is displayed around the object, and the object moves back to its former location.
